Remembering Houston radio legend Robert Bassman Washington

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - He was a Houston radio legend whose life ended way too soon. Robert Bassman Washington from Majic 102.1 died Sunday morning and fans have been remembering him all day.

He took to the airwaves at Radio One back in 1994 on 97.9 the Box and stayed on the air since that time.  Operations manager and program director Terri Thomas says, “he was light, he was laughter and he was love.” The 48-year-old is survived by his wife Keisha along with family and friends.

On the Factor to talk about the radio legend are two of his coworkers from Majic 102.1 – Funky Larry Jones and Rob-G The General.

The MAJIC 102.1 FM and 97.9 FM The Box sorrowfully announces the passing of our brother, friend and co-worker Robert Bassman Washington. Robert died yesterday morning, December 17, 2017.

Bassman joined the Radio One Houston family in 1994 on 97.9 FM The Box as an on-air personality. He also brought us inspiration as Praiseman on Praise 92.1 FM and in recent years, he’s been the voice for Houston as part of the Tom Joyner Morning Show on MAJIC 102.1 FM.

Bassman was the life of every party.  From his amazing Robert’s Recipes to getting us all in shape with Workout Wednesdays, his radio family and all of Houston could depend on him for good information, great music and big laughs.

“He was a man who never met a stranger and always had an encouraging word and a smile”, says Vice President and General Manager of Radio One Houston, Pam McKay.

“He was light. He was laughter and he was love”, says Operations Manager and Program Director, Terri Thomas.
