Reckless driver leads officers, deputies on pursuit across Los Angeles County
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were in pursuit of a reckless driver on Tuesday afternoon in southeast Los Angeles County.
The pursuit began around 11:30 a.m. in the Lakewood area. The suspect in a dark-colored vehicle was seen driving erratically, crossing over several lanes of traffic and blowing through intersections.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department discontinued the initial pursuit and initiated surveillance mode in order to keep the public safe.
The pursuit was picked up by California Highway Patrol Officers around 12:10 p.m. During CHP's pursuit, the vehicle blew out one of its tires. The suspect drove the vehicle for several miles without the vehicle's front left wheel, smoke could be seen as the driver continued to drive on the vehicle's rims.
CHP officers were able to successfully perform a "pit maneuver," in the Westchester area just before 12:20 p.m. which cased the suspect's vehicle to spin out. He was taken into custody minutes later without incident.
