Maxwell Frost punched in face at Sundance Festival, congressman says
PARK CITY, Ut. - Congressman Maxwell Frost was punched in the face at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Friday, according to a tweet from the official.
According to Frost, a man approached him and told him that President Trump was going to deport him. The man then punched him in the face, according to Frost.
Frost said the man was also heard shouting racist remarks as he ran from the incident.
An arrest affidavit lists the suspect as 28-year-old Christian Young, who approached Frost and a friend while at a bar. The affidavit corroborates Frost's account that the man called Frost a slur before assaulting him.
The report said another victim was approached by Young as he started making strange conversation. Young then grabbed the woman by the shoulders and told her she was going to be deported after she ended conversation with him.
A man was later able to detain Young until security was notified. The man was later arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail in Utah.
Frost thanked the Park City Police Department as well as venue security.
Young faces charges of assault, assault of an elected official and aggravated burglary.
Sundance released a statement on the incident:
"We strongly condemn last night’s assault and abhor any form of violence, harassment, and hate speech. While the incident occurred at a non-Festival-affiliated event, such behavior is intolerable and against our values of upholding a welcoming and inspiring environment for all our attendees. The safety and security of our festival attendees is always our chief concern, and our thoughts are with Congressman Frost and his continued well-being. We encourage anyone with additional information on this matter to contact the Park City Police Department."
