Man dies after being mauled by pack of dogs in Galveston County, authorities say

A Galveston County man is dead after being mauled by a pack of dogs Wednesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 4 p.m. outside a home on Highland Road near Santa Fe.

Authorities say at least three dogs of an unknown breed attacked the 53-year-old man.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“How do you even let that happen, honestly? Were the dogs not in a pen or what?” asked Katie Ewing, a neighbor.

higsays the unleashed dogs belong to a relative of the victim.

Family members at the scene were visibly emotional following the mauling.

“The family is distraught. They were at the hospital with their loved ones,” Sheriff Trochesset said.

“Every morning for a good month straight it sounded like there was like dog fights going on,” Ewing said.

The neighbor says she’s filed several complaints with animal control.

“Whenever the animal people would go out there, they said, ‘Oh, it looks all normal to me,’” she continued.

The owner of the dogs surrendered them to the Galveston County Animal Resource Center.

The victim’s name has not been released, and no charges have been filed in this case.
