Authorities say two people were injured at the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo in Apache Junction when a horse-drawn stagecoach slammed into multiple vehicles.

The Superstition Fire and Medical District said the accident on Saturday resulted in one injured person being transported to a nearby hospital.

The rodeo's chairman, Denny Walter, is in critical, but stable condition after he was thrown from the stagecoach. Two others on the stagecoach are Wells Fargo employees, along with the rodeo's assistant chairperson, Heather McClellan.

McClellan was able to walk away from the crash and credits Walter with holding her down to prevent her from being thrown from the stagecoach.

The two Wells Fargo employees were treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Officials say the horses were not injured and were walked from the scene to be evaluated by their owners.

McClellan says in the 54 years of celebrating Lost Dutchman Days this was the first time there was ever an accident.

"I had a feeling that it was not going to end good," she said. "I am a horse person myself, so the first inclination was to hang on and try to hold on as best as I could to where once everything did occur most people wouldn't get too badly injured."

As for what caused the horses to be spooked is still unclear.

Wells Fargo owns the stagecoach and the horses involved in the crash. We reached out to Wells Fargo for a statement.
