HFD firefighter, middle school band director among 26 men accused of soliciting sex with a minor

They range in age from their mid- 20’s to mid-70’s. Most are not the faces that come to mind when we think suspected child molester.

“A pedophile doesn’t look like perhaps you think,” said Montgomery County D.A. Brett Ligon. “It’s not some dirty old man with long hair and sharp fingernails.”

During a two month period law officers say all these men went on line searching for sex with minors.

“Many of these suspects believe they are reaching out to minor children some as young in their head as 9 and 10-year-olds for a variety of deviant sexual behaviors,” said Ligon.

In reality the men were talking to undercover cops.

None of these men can claim it was nothing more than just fantasy sex talk on line says the Montgomery County D.A.

“They got in their vehicle they’ve bought the duct tape they’ve bought the condoms they’ve tried to arrange a meeting place to find the face of this or the face of this and not the 12 or 13-year-old that they thought they were going to have sex with,” Ligon said.

Jessie Scarborough thought he was meeting a 15-year-old girl not Conroe police officer Jeff Nichols.

He and Jerry Baty of Porter both pled guilty to online solicitation of a minor and got 25 years each.

Some of the notable arrests include Houston firefighter Jay Stamper, Cy-Fair Independent School District middle school band director Adam Hymel and TDCJ prison guard Printel Vellon.

All these men according to law officials  are the faces behind alleged crimes most people can’t even fathom.

“The majority of people I know our minds don’t think this way and so it’s hard to wrap yourself around the depravity of why would a 70-year-old man try to reach out and have sex with an 8-year-old boy,” said
