Hardy Toll Road weekend closure
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Beginning at 12 p.m. Friday, the Hardy Toll Road system will shut down and remain closed until early Monday morning. The closure is the beginning of the final stages of converting the toll road to an all-electronic system -- meaning no more cash lanes.
All drivers will need an EZ Tag for their vehicles as of 5 a.m. Monday to get on the Hardy Toll Road. Drivers had it easy on Friday morning since the toll road was still open, but the evening and weekend commute home will require some advanced planning. Expect delays around the area and an increased level of traffic on Interstate 45 and US Highway 59.
EZ Tag customers represent 80 percent of peak traffic volume and that is expected to increase. Getting rid of the cash lanes will ease traffic and improve safety with drivers not needing to slow down to get into either the cash or toll lanes.
