Fatal 18-wheeler crash on Eastex Freeway in Humble

All southbound mainlanes of the Eastex Freeway are shutdown near Townsen in Humble after an 18-wheeler crashed and caught fire. Police say the driver died.

The crash happened just after 12:30 a.m. near Humble. Police say the driver was traveling inbound on the Eastex Freeway and slammed into the plastic barrels on the side of the road, causing the truck to flip.

The truck, which contained a load of new lawnmowers, caught fire. Police later found the driver deceased inside.

Police say while this was going on, a driver on the other side of the highway stopped to look and caused a chain reaction crash. Multiple cars were involved and four people were taken to the hospital. Two are in serious condition.
