Baby Remy, along with his family, continue their journey of healing.

Remy, who is almost two was severely burned in a terrible accident right before Christmas last year.

At first glance, Remy shows no signs of the burns that changed his life and his family's. But when you peel away the layers, the scars become evident.

"If you see any raised area, that's still in an active scarring phase," Remy's mother Patricia Linkous said.

Remy has come a long way since the accident when he pulled a crockpot of hot cider on top of himself, right before Christmas.

"I felt like it was my fault," Linkous said. "We literally just got there. I saw the crockpot and the plug in the wall. I would have seen it was a bad spot, but in someone else's home, it didn't register."

"You get used to seeing his scarring on his body, having to massage it, put cream on it several times a day, keeping his garments clean, making sure he's out of the sun," Linkous said. "It's a lot of care and you get used to it, but every now and then it's a painful reminder of what happened."

The journey of healing hasn't just been Remy's. It's one that's involved the entire family. Linkous says she's had her own wounds to contend with.

"I'm struggling with the guilt of what happened. I feel like it's my fault. People tell me it was just an accident and wasn't my fault, but I feel like I have to live with that for the rest of my life," Linkous said

Linkous said it took her four months after the accident to even cry for the first time.

"I was really focused on Remy. If it meant for me to set aside my emotions, then so be it," Linkous said.

"He's going to be a lot more sensitive to the sun, wind. He'll have to cover up his scarring probably for the rest of his life if he's going to be out in the sun or things like that," Linkous said.

Linkous says the true healing for her family has come from seeing a smile return to Remy's face coupled with the family's deep faith in God, making them truly thankful this Thanksgiving.

The accident happened December 20th last year.

The family just moved into a new house where they plan to continue to grow and heal as a family.
