GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says five people, including a 2-year-old boy, were rescued after they had drifted away from their boat after it had run out of gas near the Bolivar Peninsula along the Southeast Texas Gulf Coast.
A group of people on the 27-foot boat were waiting for their vessel to be towed Sunday evening when the five individuals got into the water to swim but then drifted away.
A Coast Guard helicopter and a 45-foot boat were called to the scene around 8:11 p.m.
The boat rescued three people within 20 minutes. The helicopter found the two others — a man and the boy — around 9 p.m.
All five swimmers were examined by medical personnel at the Coast Guard's Galveston station but no injuries were reported.
