In 2016, Chad Dodge was reporting news for several blog sites in Harris and Montgomery County. He covered a story on Montgomery County Precinct 4 Citizens Police Academy.

By the next class, instead of a reporter, he was a 470-pound male that was in training for the Citizens Police Academy. He graduated from the class and made a decision then that he wanted to be a police officer.

He had bypass surgery and started working out. At the time, he couldn't do a sit-up or push-up. He went through Houston Community College Police Academy. He came back to try out for Precinct 4 and didn't make it.

Several months later, he returned to the range and according to Chief Deputy, came in first on every aspect of the process.

On Tuesday morning, Deputy Dodge was sworn in at 220 pounds and started his patrol duties on Tuesday evening.
