Houston Weather: Fourth of July Forecast
video

Happy 4th of July and in typical fashion, you can expect hot and humid weather today, but with a good chance for early to mid-afternoon storms. Some could briefly be on the heavy side, but most likely, everything will calm down in time for the fireworks tonight. Watch for at least two more rounds of storms Wednesday and Thursday before a heat dome builds back in and brings more triple-digit heat. Next week looks very hot all across Texas.

Houston Weather: Hot, humid with isolated storms

This week marks a complete pattern chance for Texas with high pressure gone (for a few days) and an unsettled pattern in place. Look for a more active summertime pattern with daily highs in the mid-90s, and lots of humidity, but with the addition of scattered storms each day. The highest coverage of rain is expected on Wednesday and Thursday, but mainly afternoon storms are also possible today and tomorrow for the 4th.

Houston Weather: Rain chances after hot, dry pattern
video

After 3 weeks of hot, dry weather we've finally got some rain chances in the mix. It looks to be mostly isolated afternoon pop-ups the next few days with more coverage toward the tail end of the week. While overnight lows will still be running about 5 degrees above average, daytime highs will finally hover near normal (94). "Feels like" values will likely be elevated about 5-10 degrees above that, but we should stay mostly below heat advisory criteria (108) for now.

Houston has seen 19 days in a row of Heat Alerts and it looks like it will stop there. The heat index values for Sunday look to be just below that 108 threshold. There could still be some isolated spots hitting 108 or higher, so continue to use heat safety over this holiday weekend. Some isolated showers are in the forecast for the start of the week as Southeast Texas transitions back into a more typical summertime pattern.

On this 19th consecutive day under heat alerts, it should be our last. Tomorrow, feels like temps should mostly fall below the 108 threshold. Look for more cloud cover, and a few spotty showers on Sunday and Monday. No need to cancel outdoor plans as rain will be very hit or miss, but each afternoon next week features at least the opportunity with the return of closer to normal temperatures.

Heat Advisory has been extended once again for Houston and surrounding areas until 7 PM Saturday. That means heat index values of 105-110 are likely which will keep us in the dangerous category. The heat will become a bit less intense through the next week as the pattern finally changes. Look for a few more clouds and isolated rain by Sunday. Spotty showers & storms are expected during the afternoon Monday & Tuesday. More widespread showers and storms are in the forecast Wednesday through Friday as temperatures drop back closer to normal for this time of the year.
