Following a hot weekend with highs in the mid 90s, expect more of the same today. A surge of moisture is expected to return tomorrow and Wednesday bringing scattered storms and muggy air. A cold front sweeps in by late Thursday and we should start to cool down by late Friday through the weekend. It's not going to be cold, but should bring drier air and overnight lows in the 60s.

But changes are coming when a cold front arrives towards the end of the week. Expect a rainy/stormy day on Thursday with temperatures dropping into the 60s for many folks on Friday and Saturday morning.

Through next week, we’ll stay hot, but should see a cold front get closer by late in the week. Two tropical storms are sitting side by side in the central Atlantic, Tropical Storm Philippe and newly formed Tropical Storm Rina just to the east of Philippe. Both systems are expected to remain tropical storms for the next 5 days and not head toward SE Texas. Things are quiet for now across the rest of the Atlantic Basin. But with two more months to go in hurricane season, make sure to stay alert for possible development with water temperatures in the Gulf, Caribbean & Atlantic still super warm.

Air Quality Alert for higher ozone levels has been extended until Thursday evening for the Houston area. Isolated to spotty showers and storms are expected through the end of the work week. Severe weather is not expected, but a few storms could contain some strong gusty wind and brief heavy rain. Rain chances get even lower for the weekend and go away by Monday and Tuesday of next week. As we get closer to October, the summer heat will hang on even though it is officially fall. Look for temperatures to remain above average through early next week in the middle 90s.

The Gulf of Mexico remains quiet, with no tropical activity headed towards SE Texas. But the Atlantic is still busy with Tropical Storm Philippe approaching the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico. Philippe should get close to the Northern Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico by this weekend, with 2-4" rain potential. But Philippe is forecast to lose tropical characteristics and weaken to a remnant low by this weekend. A tropical wave in the east-central Atlantic still has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression or possibly Tropical Storm Rina over the next day or two.

Expect more heat and humidity with temperatures climbing to the low to middle 90s for the rest of the week. This is above average for late September. Above normal temperatures are expected to extend into at least the first week of October. Isolated to spotty PM rain & a few storms will stick around through the weekend with drier weather returning early next week. Tropical Storm Philippe and another tropical wave are being monitored in the Atlantic. But nothing is expected to threaten SE Texas through this week.
