Ted Cruz, Beto O'Rourke campaign events in Houston area on Saturday

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The Houston area will serve as the center of the U.S. Senate election rivalry between Republican incumbent Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke on Saturday.

El Paso Congressman O’Rourke will take part in a rally at Stampede Houston on 11925-B Eastex Freeway in north Harris County at 3 p.m.

“I think this year and this election is not about what party we might belong to or who we voted for in the last election, it’s about the future of this country, the big things we want to do, going from the least insured state in the country to the one that leads on universal healthcare, making sure that we get behind our world class public teachers so that they can earn a living wage and teach that child and not to a standardized test, the most diverse city in the country here in the most diverse state in America, leading the way on immigration reform these are the big things that we can do”, says Congressman O'Rourke.

"Running this campaign with people instead of PACs or special interests allows us to not only visit every single county in the state but to return so we can continue listening and learning from those we want to serve," said Rep. O’Rourke. "Whether it’s talking about ensuring every one of us can see a doctor or working to fully support our public schools, I leave these town halls with a better understanding of the big, bold, important issues our state wants to lead on.” Saturday's stop came on the end of a 34 day trip for O'Rourke where he spoke at about 100 different events.

Senator Cruz first stopped at Tin Roof BBQ in Humble on Saturday afternoon. He is scheduled to take part in a rally at 4 p.m. at Faith West Academy Gymnasium on 2225 Porter Road in Katy.
