Victim impact statements

Angela’s daughter - Morgan Sims read her sister, Brooklyn’s, statement: "Your job was to protect and serve. Protection requires care and caution. I hope you get the same level of protection from your guards in prison that you gave my family."

She then demanded to Viveros three times to look at her while she read the statement.

"Because of your carelessness, I lost the two most important people in my life," said Sims. "The first thing you did after the crash was get out of the vehicle to save yourself, and complain about your toe. You didn’t try to check on the civilians you just killed or inform your colleagues that you had someone in the back of your car."

Brenda Brown, a friend of the Stewart family, said, "Blademir Viveros…you ended their journey. But you’ll never erase their memory. You took a promise I made to her mother, to take care of her children, away from me. You ripped Rodney’s (Angela’s husband) heart out."

Victim Michael Hawkins' mother, Alice, spoke, saying that after the crash, her son suffered for several months before his death.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Former Missouri City Officer charged with manslaughter

FOX 26 Reporter Abigail Dye has more on what happened.

The backstory:

Viveros was charged in a crash on June 20, 2024. Mason Stewart, 16, and Angela Stewart, 53, died at the scene. Michael Hawkins was hospitalized after the crash and died on Jan. 10, 2025.

Mason, who had just turned 16, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla with his mom, Angela, and had just pulled into traffic.

Viveros was responding to an armed robbery call at an ATM in Missouri City. Prosecutors alleged Viveros was traveling at 107 mph — more than double the 40 mph speed limit — on Cartwright Road without his lights or sirens on. Authorities say Viveros crashed into the Stewarts' vehicle as they attempted a left turn.

Two hours after the crash, Hawkins – who had been picked up during a previous call – was found in the backseat of the police SUV seriously injured. He died months later.
