Thousands of people were reporting problems with the TikTok app Sunday morning, frustrating users on the biggest snow day of the year for millions of Americans.

According to the DownDetector website, outage reports peaked overnight with more than 35,000. That number was down to 4,600 by early Sunday afternoon. Users reported videos failing to load and showing 0 views.

TikTok wasn’t immediately available for comment. There's no word yet on what caused the outage and how many users were affected.

TikTok deal

The backstory:

The potential outage comes days after TikTok finalized a deal to create a new American entity, avoiding the threat of a ban in the United States that has been in discussion for years.

The company signed agreements with major investors including Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX to form the new TikTok U.S. joint venture.

Adam Presser, who previously worked as TikTok's head of operations and trust and safety, will lead the new venture as its CEO.

He will work alongside a seven-member, majority-American board of directors that includes TikTok’s CEO Shou Chew.
