Health officials find rise in Wyoming gonorrhea cases
RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Department of Health says there has been an increase in reported gonorrhea cases across the state.
WHD Communicable Disease Surveillance Program manager Courtney Smith tells the Ranger of Riverton (http://bit.ly/1HwbHBH ) that there have been 61 cases of gonorrhea this year. Last year there were 31 infections in the same time period. She says the increase in cases is severe enough to call the rise an outbreak.
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection that can be successfully treated if caught early. Some people infected with gonorrhea do not experience symptoms and if they do, they can include a burning sensation when urinating or discharge.
