An 18-year-old woman is dead and her sister was hospitalized after a shooting in a neighborhood near Friendswood, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says.
According to HCSO, a possible suspect in the shooting was located hours later, but he shot himself as deputies approached his vehicle in a grocery store parking lot. Authorities confirm that he died at the hospital.
The sheriff’s office identified the two sisters who were shot as Redha Sayed, 18, and Mahenoor Sayed, 20. Authorities say Redha died at the scene and Mahenoor remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The shooting that wounded the two women was reported around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Backenberry.
Deputies arrived and found two women near an intersection with apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities say the women may have been involved in an altercation with a male before the shooting. The male left the scene in a vehicle.
Roughly 12 hours later, around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that deputies had located a possible suspect in a vehicle that was parked outside a grocery store in the 12600 block of I-45 North near Willis.
