Stolen car crashes into school bus
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a pursuit ended with a car crashing into a school bus. FOX 26's Karys Belger has the latest.
HUMBLE, Texas - The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after deputies say a pursuit ended with a crash into an Aldine ISD school bus Tuesday afternoon in Humble.
What we know:
HCSO says the incident began around 4:22 p.m. when deputies received a hit from a FLOCK camera on a possibly stolen vehicle. Deputies say they located the vehicle near Hopper Road and US 59 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled.
Deputies say the pursuit lasted about five minutes and ended near Homestead Road and US 59 when the suspect vehicle went through the intersection on a red light and struck an Aldine ISD school bus on the right rear.
The sheriff’s office says the bus was carrying 27 students. Four students were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Investigators say the driver is about 17 years old and was taken into custody. Deputies say the teen was evaluated by EMS, refused treatment, and was transported to the Joint Processing Center.
HCSO says the teen could face felony charges related to possession of a stolen vehicle and a stolen firearm. A stolen firearm was also recovered.
What we don't know:
In an interview at the scene, Major Blendermann with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were able to locate the vehicle after a FLOCK camera hit and attempted a stop near Hopper and US 59.

HCSO has not released the teen’s name or the specific charges filed as of this writing. The sheriff’s office has also not released details on the students’ conditions beyond saying they were transported for evaluation. HCSO says its traffic division is investigating the crash.

Aldine ISD released this statement to FOX 26 on Tuesday:
"This afternoon, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit when the suspect crashed into Aldine ISD bus No. 618 near Lee Road and US 59 North. The bus was transporting 28 Aldine Middle School students at the time of the incident. Four students were transported by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation. The suspect was arrested at the scene. Aldine ISD is working closely with law enforcement. As always, student safety remains our top priority."
What's next:
Investigators determined the vehicle involved in the pursuit was stolen, and a stolen firearm was recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.
