The backstory:

Lt. Willkens says around 6 p.m., officers were called to the 10000 block of Morocco Road about a family disturbance. A mother lived there with her two adult sons, the younger son's girlfriend, and the couple's baby.

A man in his late-20s and his girlfriend got into an argument about a phone which then turned into an argument between the man and his older brother in his mid-30s, officials report. No violence had happened at the time, police say.

The younger brother was willing to go with officers who gave him a ride to the north side of Houston, said Lt. Willkens. No one wanted to file charges.

HPD received a second call a few hours later to the same residence. The younger brother returned in a vehicle and allegedly threatened his girlfriend, officials say.

A family member told officers there were no threats made, and the man came back to pick up work clothes. Again, no one wanted to file charges.

Police say the man left the home and Houston police officers stayed for a while to be sure no one wanted to file charges before leaving.

According to Lt. Willkens, a third call came in around 1:20 a.m. about a possible assault. However, police say Houston Fire Department received an initial call to the residence because the mother at the home had fainted.

When officials arrived, they learned there was also a shooting. The younger brother had been shot by the older brother, police say.

The younger male came back to the home saying he wanted to stay with his girlfriend and baby. During the argument, the mother had fainted and hit her head, officials report.

Police say the brothers got into a disturbance over how their mom got hurt and whose fault it was she fell.

At some point, Lt. Willkens says the older brother pulled out a pistol and shot his younger brother in the torso. Life-saving measures were taken by officers, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, HPD stated.

No one else was injured in the shooting and everyone involved is cooperating with police, Willkens said.

What we don't know:

At this time, HPD has not said if charges will be filed against the shooter.
