Vacant Channelview hotel catches fire for a seventh time in over 1 year

CHANNELVIEW, Texas - A vacant hotel is in flames for the seventh time in the past year in the Channelview area.

What we know:

The fire is at the Fairfield Inn & Suites along the East Freeway near Sheldon Road.

The Channelview and Sheldon Community fire departments have been called to put out the flames.

According to the Harris County Fire Marshals Office, Sheldon Fire also reported that they've been called out to the property for smaller incidents over a dozen times. 

Officials said the building was vacant and no one is supposed to be there. 

However, Harris County Fire Marshals Office officials stated that Channelview Fire Department reported that people come in and out of the property. 

Authorities said the building did sustain a significant collapse, and the side walls are still standing which is creating a hazard for the community. 

Fire Marshals Office officials add that the property was not fenced off. 

No environmental concerns have been given. 

Drivers should expect traffic issues while officials remain on the scene. 

What we don't know:

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the seventh time that this hotel has caught fire, according to the Harris County Fire Marshals Office. 

The last time was in May 2025. At that time, the Channelview Fire Department said the hotel was vacant because of a previous fire.

Here is a breakdown of the dates and reasons for the fire, according to officials:

• March 29, 2025 - electrical fire, building was in service (people were staying at the hotel)
• April 22, 2025 - undetermined fire, building was boarded up and vacant
• May 10, 2025 - intententional fire, used torch style lighter inside, setting things on fire
• May 24, 2025 - undetermined fire
• November 23, 2025 - intentional fire - number of trash fires set outside of the building
• November 24, 2025 - rekindled from fire on November 23, 2025
