Houston weather: Jan. 22 afternoon update
FOX 26 meteorologist John Dawson takes a look at temperatures across Houston and the chance for rain later this week.
HOUSTON - Temperatures have climbed back above freezing in Houston and the snow and ice is on the way out.
The freezing temperatures will return overnight, but just barely.
We believe there could be ice in some areas on Thursday morning on bridges and in shaded areas.
There is more weather to watch in the near future, but it won't have anywhere near the impact as the weather we saw earlier this week.
Rain expected later this week
Timeline:
After climbing above freezing, we expect to see rain later in the week.
Thursday Forecast: Cold start, more melting
After a cold start to the day, with temperatures below freezing, we will see temperatures climb.
Still watch out for a few icy spots, especially on bridges and overpasses. Areas that have constantly been in the shade have a higher shot for some lingering ice on the roads as well.
Highs will reach the 50s on Thursday after a cold start.
We expect it to be mostly sunny for the day, which will help get the melted snow and ice evaporate.
Friday Forecast: Sunny
Friday we will be back in the 50s with sunshine.
It should be a nice winter weather.
Saturday Forecast: Cloudy, chance of rain
As we get into the weekend, we start bringing back some clouds.
There is a bit less stability overall.
We currently have the rain chances at 20 percent.
With high temperatures in the 60s there is not a shot at any more snow or ice.
Sunday Forecast: Showers, thunderstorms possible
As we head to Sunday our chances of rain will increase.
The chance of showers or thunderstorms is at 60 percent.
Highs will be in the upper 60s.
7-Day Forecast
The rain chances will stick around for the beginning of the work week.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there is a 40 percent chance of rain Monday and 50 percent on Tuesday.
