HOUSTON - Frigid, arctic air will plunge into most of the United States beginning this weekend. Texas is likely to see temperatures as low as the teens and 20s.

The impacts on the Houston area are expected to include lows in the 20s and low 30s along with dangerous wind chills on Monday and Tuesday. A "Cold Weather Advisory" is likely to be issued by the National Weather Service.
Freezing rain, sleet and even snow are all possible beginning late Monday and lasting through Tuesday. A hard freeze is possible Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, especially north of I-10.

Timeline:
Enjoy mild afternoon temperatures today and Friday as highs reach the mid 60s today and near 70 tomorrow.
A cold front will bring a brief round of showers late Friday and early Saturday followed by the first arrival of chillier air Saturday and Sunday.
Temperatures will get much colder Sunday through Wednesday. Parents should stay alert that if roads do become icy, school districts may cancel school for a day or two.
Weather should be moderate by next weekend.
