School closings

Due to the effects of Tropical Storm Beta, several districts in southeast Texas have announced they are canceling classes. FOX 26 has compiled an alphabetically ordered list of districts that are closing. Please check back for the latest as we continue to update throughout the day.

ALDINE ISD

Aldine ISD will continue remote learning and remote working on Wednesday, Sept. 23, out of caution and Tuesday evening’s weather forecast. After-school extracurricular activities for Wednesday, Sept. 23 have been canceled. They will resume on Thursday, Sept.24. Additionally, curbside food service will resume as scheduled Thursday.

ALVIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

All Alvin Community College face-to-face classes and on-campus operations are canceled on Wednesday, September 23. In addition, the Lab School Daycare will be closed. On-line and remote classes as well as virtual services will go on as scheduled.

Dual Enrollment students are requested to check the Pod for updates about Dual Enrollment courses. Any changes will be posted by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

CHANNELVIEW ISD

Channelview ISD will be remote-only for all students, teachers and staff on Wednesday, Sept 23. 

COLLEGE OF THE MAINLAND

At this time, all College of the Mainland classes (both online and in-person) and college operations are scheduled to resume Wednesday, September 23 according to the college’s current modified COVID operations. While the campus will reopen to students, faculty and staff who can safely travel, individuals should monitor local road conditions and make decisions in the best interest of personal safety.

CLEAR CREEK ISD

Clear Creek ISD will be closed Wednesday, September 23, due to flooding throughout our district and a forecast of additional bands of rain associated with Tropical Depression Beta. This decision was made with the safety of students and staff in mind.

CCISD will reopen on Thursday, September 24, and resume in-person and online learning.

DICKINSON ISD

Dickinson ISD will remain closed on Wednesday, September 23 due to Tropical Storm Beta. Additional heavy rain bands are anticipated tonight and tomorrow morning and many Dickinson ISD employees live outside the district with flood issues. The district will reopen campuses and begin both Face-to-Face Instruction and Remote Instruction on Thursday morning, September 24.

FALLBROOK ACADEMY

Due to safety concerns related to the track of Hurricane Laura, Fallbrook Academy on Walters Road will be closed and remote learning will be suspended from Wednesday, August 26-Friday, August 28, 2020. 

FRIENDSWOOD ISD

FISD will be closed on Wednesday, September 23.

GALENA PARK ISD

Galena Park ISD will operate all campuses and district operations virtually (from the homes of staff), including Transportation, the Administration Building and all other District functions on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. GPISD employees, please contact your supervisor if you have any questions. Classes will continue to operate on a virtual basis.

GALVESTON ISD

Galveston ISD has canceled all on-site and remote classes for Wednesday, September 23 due to ongoing flooding conditions caused by Tropical Storm Beta. All GISD athletics can resume practice and competition after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. 

GOOSE CREEK CISD

GCCISD will continue with virtual learning tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 23) for all students, and staff will work virtually from home.

HARMONY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Harmony Public Schools will have students and staff learn and work remotely on Wednesday, Sept. 23. All HPS buildings will remain closed Wednesday.

HOUSTON ISD

All Houston ISD facilities and offices will remain closed on Wednesday, September 23. District facilities are scheduled to reopen on Thursday, September 24, pending road and weather conditions.

At-home instruction will continue as scheduled as long as internet connectivity and power remain intact. Digital Learning Centers will be closed. Food deliveries at apartment complexes as well as curbside pickup – both scheduled for Wednesday, September 23 – also have been canceled.

Employees will be required to report to work remotely and remain available during regular duty hours. However, employees who are required to physically report to work will be contacted by their supervisors.

KIPP

All KIPP Texas-Houston school buildings will be closed Wednesday, September 23. All ninth grade in-person learning academies and Grab & Go meal service distribution are also canceled, Wednesday, September 23.

All virtual learning and remote work will continue as scheduled. 

PASADENA ISD

Pasadena ISD will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23 due to the continual rain bands throughout the greater Houston area. This closure is for face-to-face and virtual students.  Classes (both virtual and face-to-face) will resume on Thursday.

If the weather continues to improve, we will notify parents and students through coaches, directors and sponsors about the possibility of extra-curricular activities resuming later tomorrow.   

ROYAL ISD

Royal ISD will close all district facilities and cancel all scheduled extracurricular activities on Wednesday 9/23/2020.

WiFi buses will be available (click here for the current locations and schedule) and Royal ISD will still offer curbside meals at all campuses from 8-10am except STEM (click here for details – please follow signage at each campus).

SAINT THOMAS' EPISCOPAL SCHOOL

Saint Thomas' Episcopal School will have a delayed start on Wednesday, September 23. Our preschool will start at 9:00 and our K-12 grades will start at 10:00. 

SAN JACINTO COLLEGE

San Jacinto College will extend online learning and remote work to Wednesday, September 23, 2020. This means that: online learning – whether Online on a Schedule or Online Anytime – will continue as scheduled; in-person classes and on-campus operations are canceled; All campuses and facilities are closed; All clinicals are canceled; Employees will work remotely from home.

The College administration and Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the weather for the duration of this event. The next update will be sent by 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

SANTA FE ISD

Due to many of SFISD staff in surrounding areas that have been adversely impacted due to high water and the potential for additional flooding conditions this evening, the District will remain closed on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. There will be no face-to-face or virtual instruction.

SFISD will open for normal operations and welcome all staff and students back on Thursday, September 24, 2020.

SHELDON ISD

Sheldon ISD is remote Wednesday, September 23. We will still have virtual learning and will monitor weather to determine after-school activities tomorrow. 

SPRING ISD

Please be advised that Spring ISD will be learning and working remotely on Wednesday, Sept. 23 because of hazardous weather. Teachers will provide virtual instruction and all staff will work from home.

STAFFORD MSD

SMSD has decided to close campus, but will continue remote teaching and learning on Wednesday, September 23. All staff and students should stay home and work remotely. There will be no after school activities and no transportation.

Meal curbside and pick up services are rescheduled for Thursday 9/24.

TEXAS CITY ISD

Texas City ISD will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 23. They will open for students and staff on Thursday, Sept. 24. Curbside meal pickup will be available on Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at each school. 

UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON-DOWNTOWN

The University of Houston-Downtown will continue conducting operations online on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020 due to widespread flooding associated with Tropical Storm Beta. Classes will be conducted online. Employees are instructed to work remotely and are discouraged from coming to campus.

YES PREP

 All YES Prep facilities will remain closed today for staff, but YES Prep online learning will continue as scheduled for today Sept. 23.
