Brookshire: 1 killed in crash involving ATV

What we know:

According to officials, the crash happened at FM 362 and Garvie Road. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to assist at about 1 p.m. Friday.

A DPS sergeant at the scene says 65-year-old Brookshire resident Ernest Ray Kelley was driving a Tracker Pro ATV south on FM 362 toward Garvie.

A Mercedes on northbound 362 was preparing to turn left onto Garvie, and a Ford F-250 was coming to a stop behind the Mercedes.

At that time, a Freightliner 18-wheeler allegedly failed to control its speed and rear-ended the Ford. The impact caused the Ford to spin into the southbound lanes on 362 and hit the ATV.

Kelley was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and passenger as passenger of the Ford F-250 were hospitalized for treatment.

Officials say the 18-wheeler driver and passenger and the Mercedes driver are OK.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was given a citation for Failure to Control Speed.

The crash is still under investigation.
