Houston Harbor Town Drive standoff: Suspect in custody after officer fires weapon
What we know:
Assistant Chief L. Menendez-Sierra says Mid-West patrol officers were called about a shooting in progress in the 6500 block of Harbor Town Drive around 8 p.m.
A woman was found lying on the ground nearby the apartment complex, police said. She told the officers she jumped from the second floor balcony of the apartment because a 17-year-old relative, later identified as her son, was shooting inside.
Two other females, a juvenile and another adult, were said to be in the apartment. The woman told police she was mother to the two females left inside.

Officers attempted to make contact with the male inside by knocking on the apartment door, officials said. Police say the suspect inside shot at officers through the door, and one of the officers returned fire.
Police say the officer who fired back was Officer C. Santana with the Midwest Patrol Division. The officer was sworn into HPD in 2017.
Assistant Chief Menendez-Sierra, says the officers retreated and set up a perimeter. SWAT was called to the scene to assist.
While officers were waiting for SWAT, the females still inside the apartment were rescued from the balcony. Houston Fire Department set up a ladder to help get them down.
