Fire burns in trees near I-45, Cypress Preserve in north Harris County

Crews were battling a fire in a wooded area near I-45 in north Harris County on Monday afternoon.

What we know:

According to the Ponderosa Fire Department, the fire was reported near Cypress Preserve and Imperial Valley around 1:30 p.m.

Officials say the fire was located in a wooded area that spans about 50 acres, and about 10 acres of that land were involved in the fire.

Fire officials requested the Texas A&M Forest Service to come in and assist with containment.

As of 6 p.m., the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office reported the fire to be about 50% contained.

What we don't know:

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, but fire officials say it may have been started by someone cooking or stripping wire in the wooded area.
