Empire State Building shimmers in pink in tribute to Dolly Parton

The Big Apple honored country music star Dolly Parton Tuesday night in a sparkling display.

New York City's Empire State Building lit up pink Tuesday night in celebration of the beloved music and movie star who died Tuesday in Nashville after a hospitalization reportedly involving kidney and autoimmune issues.

The backstory:

Born in Tennessee, the "Queen of Country," sold over 100 million records and earned 11 Grammy Awards and 55 nominations during her decades-long career. 

The country icon was also an avid philanthropist, founding the "Imagination Library" in 1995 to promote children's literacy.  She was 80 years old.
