Suspect injured in Conroe officer-involved shooting

An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in Conroe on Tuesday. FOX 26's Randy Wallace has the latest.

A suspect is in custody following a Tuesday evening officer-involved shooting near Carl Barton Park in Conroe. 

What we know:

Law enforcement responded to the area of Carl Barton Park in the 2800 block of South Loop 336 East on Tuesday evening. They say the shooting involved a Montgomery County Pct. 2 constables deputy.

The incident began when the deputy conducted a traffic stop on the suspect, later identified as John Laredo, 34. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, who provided an update around 7 p.m., Laredo immediately got out of his vehicle and was belligerent. 

After neglecting to comply with the deputy, the incident escalated and ultimately led to the deputy firing three shots, striking Laredo once in his hand, the sheriff's office said.

Officials speak at scene of officer-involved shooting

Officials provided an update Tuesday night at the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Conroe.

Laredo then got back in his vehicle, drove a short distance, got back out and fled on foot. He was soon captured and taken into custody. 

Laredo was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the officer, who was not injured, was also evaluated. 

The sheriff's office is leading the investigation, which is currently underway. 

The incident happened near a baseball game that was taking place at the park; officials say the game wasn't impacted by the shooting. 

What we don't know:

Officials were unable to comment on the escalation that led to the shooting.

It's not known whether Laredo was armed during the incident.
