Black History - James D. Ryan
One of the hardest fighters for education reform and equality for black students in Texas was James D. Ryan. He graduated from Prairie View A&M in 1890 and began teaching in Houston. During his 45 year career, Ryan served as President of the Colored State Teachers of Texas, a trustee of Wiley College, and as a member of the boards of Emancipation Park, Houston Negro Hospital, and many other institutions.
