Tropical Weather Update - Tracking Storm Erin, Yucatan wave

Tropics remain active with tropical storm Erin now in the Central Atlantic. It is expected to become a category one hurricane by Friday morning and a major category 3 hurricane by Sunday morning, just north of Puerto Rico. Right now, It appears that it will curve north early next week and miss the East Coast of the US. But it could pose a risk for Bermuda next week. We are also monitoring a tropical wave crossing over the Yucatan peninsula that will push into the Southwestern Gulf by Thursday. There's a low 10 to 20% chance that it could turn into a weak tropical system over the next few days. At this point, it is expected to remain weak and have minimal impacts on the Houston area. However, it could help to enhance our rain chances Friday and give us an increased risk for rip currents.
