Texas Senate bans future universal basic income programs | What's Your Point?
An outright ban of any future government universal basic income distribution has won approval in the Texas Senate. Sponsored by Houston Republican Paul Bettencourt, the statewide prohibition was triggered by Harris County's failed attempt at randomly selecting around 2,000 low income households to receive 18 months of no strings attached stipends totaling $9,000; a proposal ultimately blocked by the Texas Supreme Court.
