Houston Weather: Winter storm arrives in Houston area

Our winter storm continues on track for the Houston area. We are expected snowfall accumulations that have not been seen in the city of Houston since 1960. Snow, graupel, and sleet have started falling and freezing rain will be possible overnight into early Tuesday morning. Look for widespread snow as the sun comes up on Tuesday with 2-4 inches possible by lunchtime. Isolated heavier band of snow could leave as much as 6-8 inches. We still need to keep off of the roadways Tuesday. Snow and ice will make things slippery and dangerous. Unfortunately, the snow comes along with very cold air. Tuesday's high temps will be stuck in the mid 30s. After an amazing snowy Tuesday morning, attention will turn to the hard freeze Tuesday night as lows fall to the teens and low 20s - that means any moisture on roadways will freeze, so travel will be treacherous the first half of Wednesday. So when will it warm up? Sunshine should help warm our afternoons each day from Thursday through the weekend.
