La Porte WWII veteran awarded France's National Order of the Legion of Honour

100-year-old Geneva Marnell, a WWII veteran from La Porte, was awarded France?s award of merit, The National Order of the Legion of Honour. Geneva served in the WAC, Women?s Army Corps, taking orders during Operation Overlord for all troop movements in Europe. She arrived on the beach in Normandy, France and drove her jeep along roads that still warned of land mines. In addition to the Legion of Honor, she received many past awards, including three Bronze Service Stars.
