Moses Malone Jr. said the funeral for his father, the Hall of Fame center, will be on Saturday at noon at Lakewood Church.

He said his father's former teammate, Charles Barkley, will handle the eulogy during the service.

"It means a lot," said Moses Malone Jr. in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "My dad was Charles' mentor. Charles has been a great family friend for years.

"Charles has great admiration and love for my father."

The funeral for Moses Malone, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001, will be attended by many from the NBA who played with and against him.

"I know for a fact from the Sixers Dr. J (Julius Erving), Charles Barkley, Andrew Toney, John Lucas, Calvin Murphy, Hakeem Olajuwon, current and former Rockets players," said Moses Malone Jr.

"It will be basketball dignitaries, current and former.  It makes me feel good that my dad was loved by so many people and people really, truly cared about him."

Moses Malone, the 12-time NBA All-star and three-time Most Valuable Player, passed away on Sunday of natural causes at the age of 60.

"It was very difficult to go to Norfolk, Virginia to claim the body, go through all the paperwork, have him sent down here," said Moses Malone Jr.

"It's very hard now, but I have to stay strong. I knew this would happen. There would be a day I have to step up and represent my dad's name, make sure that he's proud of me."

Moses Malone Jr. wants the funeral for his father to be a celebration of his life.

"I hope that he's sent out almost like a king," Moses Malone Jr. said. "My dad's been a superstar since he was 15, since high school, he's always been the man.

"It will definitely be a celebration of his life. His life will be celebrated and he will be remembered forever."
