Officials said the victim was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Police said when officers were working the scene, a man came up, turned himself into officers and said he shot the victim.

Residents in the apartment complex tell Houston police the victim and the shooter had some kind of ongoing argument where they argued pretty regularly.

Officials said during Monday's incident the man claims the woman assaulted him with a stick or a broomstick and that he shot the woman in self-defense.

Police said they believe there is surveillance video of the incident and will be talking with the suspect and witnesses.

After the investigation is completed, the district attorney's office will be contacted to see if they want to file charges and refer the case to a grand jury for further action.
