Social media was filled with people sharing news about “silent” fireworks today. The thought of quiet fireworks shows seems like a good one for people who worry about their pets getting spooked by the loud noises. The chatter came from an article about a town in Italy switching to silent fireworks. Problem is, this is a pretty misleading headline.
First of all, there is no such thing as "silent" fireworks. A better description is probably "reduced noise" shows. The few places that have tried this, don't use the big bright traditional fireworks you're used to seeing and they're definitely not silent -- just a little quieter. The use of pyrotechnology simply hasn't figured out a way to take the loud bang out of fireworks. So, sorry. The concept of "silent" fireworks won't be coming to a city near you anytime soon.

Did a woman lose her toe nails all in the name of papering? This one unfortunately is true. A doctor published his findings in a medical magazine this week saying he had a patient in her 20's lose all 10 of her toe nails after letting fish nibble off her dead skin during a pedicure. Fish pedicures can be found at fancy spas but doctors warn it's risky. The practice is actually outlawed in 10 states including Texas. So foks, beware!
