Despite the heavy rainfall, dozens of relatives and friends gathered to remember 18-year-old Jocelynn Valero, whose life was cut short when she was returning home from prom. There were prayers and a memorial on East Tidwell and the North Freeway where Valero and her date, Moises Avila, were struck by a vehicle with an accused drunk driver behind the wheel on early Saturday morning.

The driver, Edin Palacios-Rodas, was stopped by police for driving erratically, but then led officers on a vehicle chase before crashing his into the vehicle that carried the young couple. Valero died at the scene and Moises was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

It's a tragic loss for her friends but for her family, the pain is that much deeper since Valero's older brother Jose was shot and killed outside of a Houston night club just five weeks before. Loved ones each took a turn sharing memories of Jocelynn and one woman shared the following powerful message:

Jocelynn was scheduled to graduate with her classmates on June 5 from Yes Prep North Central.
