A grieving mother in North Texas wants to know why her son died the day before his 18th birthday while skydiving.
Dayton Bryant took a trip to Colorado with his father to celebrate his 18th birthday. They visited High Sky Adventures to take part in a skydiving session. Bryant told his mother that he would be doing a solo form of skydiving known as a "static line," but his parachute failed and he fell to his death. The Federal Aviation Administration has no requirement that first dives be tandem, but Bryant's mother wants that to change.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were assisting in the investigation.
The chief deputy for the Freemont County coroner said Bryant’s death was ruled an accident and that his parachute went into a spiral, but that there were no faults in the equipment. High Sky Advenures has not commented on the deadly accident.
