It's a national story that's now hitting closer to home. A new study says black students in Fort Bend ISD are disproportionately disciplined.
According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, a six-year investigation by the Office of Civil Rights says black students in Fort Bend ISD were six times more likely to receive out-of-school suspensions than white students and four times as likely to be placed on in-school suspensions. Fort Bend ISD Superintendent Charles Dupre says the district is working on the issue and is aiming programs at preventing poor behavior rather than punishing it.
