It's a national story that's now hitting closer to home. A new study says black students in Fort Bend ISD are disproportionately disciplined.

According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, a six-year investigation by the Office of Civil Rights says black students in Fort Bend ISD were six times more likely to receive out-of-school suspensions than white students and four times as likely to be placed on in-school suspensions. Fort Bend ISD Superintendent Charles Dupre says the district is working on the issue and is aiming programs at preventing poor behavior rather than punishing it.

On the Factor to talk about this is Tammie Campbell, former Fort Bend County NAACP president and now head of the Honey Brown Hope Foundation, and Louis Hunter whose son was accused of passing counterfeit money in Fort Bend ISD and was brought up on juvie charges.
