HOUSTON - An electronic recycling facility caught fire overnight Thursday in southeast Houston, officials report.
Recycled computers on fire
What we know:
District Chief 26 says the fire began around 1:30 a.m. on Springer Street at Electronic Scrap Recycling in the Gulfcrest area. The building was full of recycled computers, which is why "booms" and "bangs" could be heard from inside.
A total of 60 firefighters responded to the fire as part of a total of 15 units, the district chief said. Firefighters fought the flames defensively from outside, using multiple hand lines, deck guns, and aerial ladders.
There was a building next door full of tires, but the fire did not extend to it.
No civilians or firefighters have been injured, officials say.
The fire is being reported as an active incident on the City of Houston website.
What we don't know:
It is unclear how the fire could have started.
