A man was honored by the Precinct 6 Constable’s Office Saturday for his "bravery and selflessness."

Deputies say Brandon Baltimore noticed a deputy was in distress while detaining a suspect that was accused of stealing at a gas station in the 2000 block of Runnels Street, and jumped into action.

Authorities say the man started assaulting someone nearby and Deputy Lancaster attempted to detain the suspect. The suspect was combative and struck Deputy Lancaster multiple times in the face and upper torso area, knocking him to the ground.

Baltimore was able to detain the suspect until backup units arrived to the scene.
