Parents say the Fort Bend Independent School District announced plans in December 2018 to implement an early college high school program at Thurgood Marshall High School to begin at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. It would address post-secondary degree completion and college readiness by creating a seamless transition between high school, college and the professional world.
Students would be able to earn college credit, an associate degree, a two-year post-secondary certificate or industry certification while earning their high school diploma. But there are some who say not only has Marshall not discussed the program with parents, but they fear Fort Bend ISD has plans to hand control of the campus to the Texas Education Agency.
