Missouri PD investigated

What we know:

According to the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office, on Oct. 30, 2024 a water leak in the evidence room damaged evidence in about 100 cases.

The DA's office was only made aware of the issue in January after the evidence was already destroyed.

A civil rights investigation was opened the day they learned of the incident and the investigation is ongoing, Fort Bend County DA's Office said.

"The focus of that investigation is to determine if there is criminal culpability in destroying the evidence," wrote in a statement.

While the investigation is ongoing, the DA's office is researching and identifying all affected cases to notify defendants and their attorneys. This impacts pending cases and cases we may have disposed of in between the event and our discovery.

What we don't know:

Which and how many cases will be impacted by the destroyed evidence is unknown.
