HOUSTON (FOX 26) - An important message for all drivers, soon you might have to wake up even earlier to get to work. U.S. 290 is shutting down for more than a month and it is not the only major closure. It means a lot of traffic and delays in northwest Houston.
Westbound access from U.S. 290 to the Sam Houston Tollway closed Friday at 9 p.m. It is scheduled to open by 5 a.m. on March 7. Drivers are already anticipating a challenging commute.
The $1.8 billion project will widen U.S. 290 to 5 lanes in each direction from 610 to Texas 6 and 4 lanes in each direction to Waller.
Already underway crews have started to work on I-10 Katy eastbound at the I-45 bridges. It started Friday. The closure will affect drivers for the next 2 weekends. Texas Department of Transportation says it's necessary for rehabilitation of the bridges. Still a lot of congestion expect near the Heights.
