Land surveyor in La Marque finds bones, later determined to be human

LA MARQUE, Texas - An investigation is underway after human remains were found on Wednesday in La Marque, officials said.

What we know:

According to authorities, La Marque dispatch received a call regarding suspicious circumstances in a wooded area off of Highway 3. 

Officials said a land surveyor reported that while they were surveying property, they found bones. The surveyor was unsure at that time whether the remains were human or animal. 

Further investigation determined the remains were human. 

What we don't know:

Officials said they did not have any information on the identity of the remains. 

They were also unsure how long the remains may have been at the location. 

The investigation continues.
