Man shot by officers after he charged at them with a knife
A man is dead after a Houston police officer shot him during a crisis call.
HOUSTON - A person in Houston is dead after police say he approached officers with a knife Thursday evening.
Houston police say they initially responded to a suicide in progress, which progressed to the person approaching officers with a knife, ultimately resulting in him being fatally shot.

What we know:
According to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Houston police said they were on their way to the scene at 9255 West Sam Houston Parkway.
In a press release, police report a female had called about her brother. When she was at the door with police, the brother charged out of the apartment with a large knife, officials claim.
He advanced on police officers who tried to retreat, but the man kept coming towards them.
Officer N. Ruiz-Valbuena shot his weapon, allegedly in fear of his safety and the safety of the other officers. Officer Ruiz-Valbuena was sworn in as an officer in October 2023.
The suspect was immediately given medical aid bad aken to a nearby hospital, police said. He later died at the hospital.

In a press conference around 7:30 p.m., Houston PD said the person was actively harming himself when officers were called to the scene.
Three officers responded to the call, and upon arrival, they say the subject approached them with a knife. One officer fired his gun in self-defense, they said.
The subject was injured by the gunshot, and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life, police said. He later died at the hospital.
