1 dead in Houston crash involving CenterPoint utility truck, 18-wheeler

One person is dead after a crash involving a CenterPoint Energy utility truck and an 18-wheeler on the I-610 South Loop Friday morning, Houston authorities say.

What we know:

The crash occurred in the westbound lanes near MLK Blvd. around 9:30 a.m.

According to police, the driver of a Ford F450 CenterPoint Energy truck changed lanes and struck the right, front tire of an 18-wheeler. 

Police say the 18-wheeler lost control and dragged the CenterPoint truck into the grassy median. The vehicles hit a retaining wall and light pole.

A passenger in the CenterPoint truck was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police say the driver of the CenterPoint truck did not show any signs of intoxication and was released after being questioned.

The highway was shut down for hours but reopened at 3 p.m.

What we don't know:

No one involved in the crash has been identified.
