What we know:
According to Cleveland ISD, the bus was carrying 59 students from Cleveland High School and Cleveland Ninth Grade Center. The bus was involved in a crash on FM 1010 and ended up on its side in a ditch.
All the students were evacuated from the bus and taken to the North Service Center to be medically evaluated. The district says 36 students were taken to local hospitals for further evaluation, but no life-threatening injuries have been reported. The driver was also evaluated.
Those who were medically cleared were taken to their campus. The district said they would be checked on throughout the day by school nurses.
Parent notifications:
The parents or guardians of the students who were involved have been notified through SMART tag. The district says any parents who did not get a call or SMART tag notification did not have a child on the bus.
What we don't know:
It’s unclear at this time what caused the crash.
What they're saying:
"We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to our driver and to all students involved, wishing them a full and quick recovery," the district wrote on Facebook. We are deeply grateful to the first responders, medical personnel, and district employees who acted with urgency and compassion to ensure everyone was cared for.
