Child taken to hospital after gunshots fired in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (FOX 26) — Preliminary police reports indicate two children were fighting and one of them was shot in the leg when a parent tried to break up the fight. Police have identified the parent who discharged the weapon and are searching for that person.

After a woman reported to police that she heard gunshots fired near a dumpster at a southeast Houston apartment complex, a child was taken to a hospital with injuries determined not to be life-threatening.

The witness told police that she heard a woman scream that her son was shot.
